Surströmming Festival

Hering mit Wacholderbeeren

The community of the Swedish Victoria Church is celebrating the infamous fermented herring at its "Surströmmingsskiva" this October.

Surströmming is a Swedish delicacy made of canned and fermented herring. Traditionally, it is served with pita bread, red onion and potatoes. The dish is known beyond the borders of its home country mainly because of its infamous, pervasive smell. At the Surströmming Festival in Berlin-Wilmersdorf, daring foodies and surströmming aficionados alike can learn how best to prepare and enjoy the fish. A hearty dessert will also be available at the festival.
