At the world's largest mass sport event around 70,000 participants from all over the world take part in hundreds of competitions in 28 different types of sport in Berlin.
The last event in Berlin dating back to 2005, the International German Gymnastics Festival returns to the capital city in 2017 with countless competitions, breathtaking show highlights staged by professional choreographers, sport events at historical places, and a grand gala at the Olympic Stadium. The impressive diversity plus the shared enthusiasm for sport bring thousands of people of all ages together for a fantastic sports experience.
The variety of disciplines ranges from rope skipping to fistball to acrobatics and welcomes participants from the age of 12 to 80+. There are hundreds of competitions across Berlin, group performances, show events, activities for children and youths, and a Festival Academy which offers workshops and seminars for those who want to learn more about specific types of sport and exercises.
The opening event takes place at Brandenburg Gate and the Straße des 17. Juni in Berlin's city centre. Other events will be held at different venues across the city, such as the exhibition grounds at Funkturm, the Mercedes-Benz-Arena at East Side Gallery, and the Olympic Park. A special highlight is the grand gala at the Olympic Stadium.
