On the second weekend in Advent, the Alt-Rixdorf Christmas market in the Neukölln district takes visitors back to the 19th century.
The nostalgic Christmas market at Richardplatz in the heart of Neukölln is open to visitors for one weekend only. For the time of the market, Richardplatz - an old market square in the former Bohemian village Rixdorf- is decorated with paraffin lamps and other historic elements.
In the glow of the historic oil lamps, over 200 vendors offer carefully curated Christmas decorations, foods and more. Among them are handmade toys, tree decorations and dipped candles. Honey, homemade jams, brushes, greeting cards are available at the stands and so are Bratwurst, candied apples, candy floss, mulled wine, hot chocolate and mead.
Other attractions at the Rixdorf Christmas market include pony riding, a visit of the Three Wise Men with their camels, a historic smithy and a display of historic carriages. Santa Claus, a historic police force and a witch do their best to entertain the little ones.
The Rixdorf Christmas market is a charitable event. Proceeds benefit neighbourhood initiatives in Neukölln.
