A golden crack in the ground on Breitscheidplatz commemorates the victims of the terrorist attack on December 19, 2016.
The memorialwas officially inaugurated on the first anniversary of the attack, December 19, 2017. The design of the memorial was chosen in a competition. The winning entry was designed by the agency Merz Merz GmbH & Co. KG.
The memorial is presented as a crack filled with a gold-coloured alloy running through part of the ground on Breitscheidplatz. An inscription placed on the front of the steps in front of the Memorial Church reads: "In memory of the victims of the terrorist attack on 19 December 2016. For peaceful coexistence of all people." Thirteen people died because of the terrorist attack.
