This viewing platform on the summit of the Kienberg was the landmark of the International Garden Show 2017. It offers wide views over Berlin and Brandenburg.
With its light and floating architecture, the Wolkenhain ("Cloud Grove") has a filigree, cloud-shaped effect. The approximately 20-metre-high observation deck stands on the highest point of Berlin-Marzahn's Kienberg, which means that the viewing platform reaches a total height of about 120 metres above sea level. On a clear day, the visibility range is up to 50 kilometres. The Berlin TV Tower, about 12 kilometres away, is clearly visible from here. Signs on the walkway inform about places in the vicinity of the lookout point, offering visitors the opportunity to get to know the surrounding urban area in a new way.
The construction consists of approximately 170 steel nodes and a translucent membrane intended to make the Wolkenhain appear light, transparent and changeable. At dusk and on special occasions, the structure is colourfully illuminated. The colour of the light can be controlled and adapted to the natural light, which makes the lookout point blend into its surroundings in a way that is very special and unique.
The Wolkenhain was located on the grounds of the 2017 International Garden Exhibition IGA. Since the end of the exhibition, it has been freely accessible to all residents and visitors. The Wolkenhain can be reached by cable car or on foot. The ascent to the viewing platform is via a staircase or barrier-free via lift.
