Walk in the footsteps of Berlin's GDR past and learn more about what it meant to be persecuted by the GDR regime.
The four-hour sightseeing tour starts at Potsdamer Platz and takes the maximum of six participants along Karl-Marx-Allee and Frankfurter Allee, formerly known as Stalinallee. The street between Strausberger Platz and Frankfurter Tor, with its monumental confectioner-style buildings, was the showpiece street of East Berlin. Today it is one of Europe's longest architectural monuments.
The bus then makes a short stop in front of the site of the former headquarters of the Ministry of State Security, or Stasi for short. The ministry took an entire block of houses. Erich Mielke, GDR Minister for State Security, had his office here.
The highlight of the city tour is the two-hour guided tour through the Stasi prison Hohenschönhausen by former prisoners. They report first-hand what it meant to be a prisoner of the GDR regime. During the tour not only interrogation rooms and cells will be visited, visitors will learn first-hand under what conditions the inmates had to live in the Stasi prison and what role it played in the system of political persecution in the former GDR.
On the way back you will pass the famous East Side Gallery and the new modern Berlin quarter around the Mercedes-Benz-Arena.
