In the summer of 1945 Potsdam was in the spotlight of the world public. The most powerful heads of state in the world came to the city to hold the "Potsdam Conference". At about the same time, the nuclear age began - also here in Potsdam.
Our vehicle:
The minibus “Bukhanka” (“pan loaf”) is a modern Soviet "vintage car". Up to 8 guests (+ driver) can enjoy a unique and authentic experience. There are some surprises waiting on board!
The Tour:
Starting point is the train station Griebnitzsee, which was for many decades in a restricted area and a border station in GDR times.
With the "Bukhanka" it then goes along the Griebnitzsee lake, on whose banks stand magnificent villas. These served the conference delegations not only as residences, but also for lively celebrations of the end of the war in Europe.
At the Truman Villa of the US President, we learn what the atomic bombings in Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945 have to do with the Potsdam Conference. Two memorial stones from these two tragic places are reminiscent of it today.
Passing through the former British zone with the Churchill Villa, we arrive at the former residence of the Soviet leader Josef Stalin. With the "Bukhanka" we follow the same route that the car convoys of the heads of state once took. Via the later GDR exclave Klein Glienicke and the world-famous Bridge of Spies we head towards the UNESCO World Heritage Site “New Garden”.
Finally, in Cecilienhof Palace, we will visit the historic site with the exhibition on the Potsdam Conference and the Potsdam Agreement. (Please note, on Mondays the Cecilienhof Palace is closed! You will visit the museum on your own by audio guide since it is not allowed to have guided tours inside the historic rooms).
Then it goes back to the S-Bahn Griebnitzsee.
