No one should be too sure that God is on his side.

A successful actor gets into deep trouble due to abusive behaviour in the past as his fellow-actor and ex-girlfriend files a suit against him. After various futile attempts to get him back into business, he’s being offered the leading part in a modern Werewolf flick. At first, the actor refuses, but is finally persuaded by his agent that this is his last chance.

Kata Wéber‘s and Kornél Mundruczó’s theatre practice is closely intertwined with their international film-making experiences. Created for the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz the new project is about actor identities and the limits of acting performances. Located at a fictive film set, the method acting practices referred to in the piece’s title stand as a paradigm for (not) drawing the line between the actor and the person he or she are representing on screen. At which point does the effort to transmogrify into a stage character turn into transgressive or abusive behaviour?

Focusing on a specific micro community, Method investigates how societies are legitimating and backing up oppressors, even though they might threaten their existence. Monsters will always make their own rules and set their own boundaries. The question is: how can democratic societies react to anti-democratic acts and actions? Method is conceived as a farce, reflecting its own foundation by mocking a horror movie.
