The solo My Threatening Poem is Dareen Tatour’s autobiographical account of her experiences of being arrested and imprisoned by the Israeli authorities.

The Palestinian poet was arrested in the fall of 2015 without initially knowing the reason for her arrest. Judges interpret her art and question her qualification as a poet. Tatour is sentenced to five months in prison and spends three years under house arrest while she has to appear in court repeatedly. The case attracted international attention. The PEN organization campaigned strongly for her release.

Dareen Tatour’s text tells of her experiences during the trial of intimidation and dehumanization, but also of solidarity and cohesion. The monologue reveals the mechanisms of persecution and their effects. It is full of self-empowerment and at the same time a reflection on solidarity and art as forms of resistance. In this way, Dareen Tatour illuminates a reality of life that is not only her own, but affects many Palestinian artists.

My Threatening Poem has already been performed in many international cities, including Nazareth, Yaffa, Östersund, Paris, Brussels, Florence, Washington DC and Oslo.

In this performance, the actress Lamis Ammar attempts to approach the text and Tatour’s experience from her own position and presents the monologue for the first time in a German adaptation.
