Future Macbeth

Zuschauerraum Neues Haus

Zuschauerraum Neues Haus

William Shakespeare's tragedy Macbeth is the prototype of a parable about lust for power. It charts the rise of the military commander Macbeth, who becomes king of Scotland through murder and intrigue. Ukrainian director Stas Zhyrkov, who has been living in exile in Germany since the start of the Russian war of aggression, examines questions about power and recognition, about guilt and tyranny, and their potential relevance to today’s world, in collaboration with his team and students from the Ernst Busch University of Theatre Arts. How does power work? Where does violence come from? What stories do we tell ourselves in order to justify it? How can we oppose it? What can we do to fight tyranny? Is a world without violence conceivable?  In cooperation with the Ernst Busch University of Theatre Arts.
