At the end of the 18th century, Vienna is Europe’s musical hotspot.In the centre of the Habsburgs’ multinational empire, Stars such as Haydn, Mozart or Beethoven compete for the favour and money of those in power. Today almost unknown, their contemporary Paul Wranitzky was a leading light of Vienna’s music scene. He was a productive composer, a highly esteemed orchestral director and was active in social institutions as well.And Max Dietz…? Did he nail the coffin to Wranitzkys fall into oblivion?The Aurum Ensemble Berlin and the puppeteer Suse Wächter reincarnate the spirit of the artistically fruitful and politically suspense-packed in a rousing musical theatre project.On authentic period Instruments, the string trio brings the pieces of the big and small Viennese Classic stars face to face with Wranitzkys work.Entertaining and pondering, quirky, cheeky and smugly, Suse Wächters’ puppets draw an entertaining genre painting of the era’s artistry and the cultural patronage.Along for the ride: Sigmund Freud who puts the heroes of the Viennese Classic on his couch as well as the Austrian Empress and the Aurum Ensemble Berlin musicians.
