Josephine: The Queen of Entertainment

With the show “Josephine: The Queen of Entertainment”, the Wintergarten pays tribute to a unique artist - stage star, activist, freedom fighter.

Born in America, the cosmopolitan Josephine Baker is still an icon and style-defining role model for generations of artists worldwide. Women's rights activist, entrepreneur, trailblazer - many attributes still resonate in her name today. Above all, however, Josephine Baker was an absolutely exceptional entertainer - she played a decisive role in shaping our current understanding of entertainment. She loved the stage and the audience loved her. 

The Wintergarten puts this love at the center of its new production - committed to its credo with the exciting, diverse stylistic devices of variety theatre: together with the fabulous singers Nicolle Rochelle and Alice Francis, who, accompanied live by a fantastic band, alternately interpret the wonderful international chansons of the black diva, Europe's most renowned variety theater invites you on a musical and artistic journey through the decades - from the Roaring Twenties to the vibrant Seventies.

Jazz, electro-swing and contemporary pop interpretations, combined with dance and of course - how could it be otherwise in the Wintergarten - the outstanding skills of the internationally cast top artists promise an entertaining evening that will amaze you. In the opulent stage set, they sing, tap dance, juggle with their feet and balance on their hands until the show stairs glow.

Changeable video screens, confusing black light, glittering disco balls and elaborately produced, magnificent costumes with up to 1000 peacock feathers turn the new revue in the Wintergarten into a furious variety festival - which Josephine Baker would certainly have enjoyed.
