The interpretation of music has changed constantly over the past 200 years, both on a large and small scale, sometimes almost fundamentally. It is not easy to grasp the numerous changes as a whole - the concentrated examination of individual dimensions of musical interpretation, on the other hand, promises to reveal decisive perspectives and practices. With its approach, the series of events fits into one of the SIM's major research and publication projects: the history of musical interpretation in the 19th and 20th centuries, the fourth and final volume of which will be published in 2024.

Short introductions to each topic, vivid demonstrations live or in another medium and discussions with academics, artists and the audience will complement each other in different ways. At the opening of this year's series on May 16 at 6 p.m., we will celebrate Peter Gülke, to whom the interpretation of music and its research owe so much, on his 90th birthday.
