Markus&Markus Theaterkollektiv: Matrix Reinsurance

For us, it’s just a junction, a house by a river, a car with lane departure warning. For them, it’s numbers, foreseeable dangers, calculable risks.

The three largest reinsurance companies in the world are on our doorstep: Munich Re, Swiss Re and Hannover Re. Reinsurance companies are the insurance companies behind the insurance companies. They usually remain hidden because they do not directly affect individual citizens. And yet their figures and vector arrows are constantly hovering around everything. This is where the big calculations are made, the risks weighed up, the final opponents localized; this is where the game is defined - and reality is constructed. Here, a risk matrix is created through data processing in the form of charts.

After Titanic II, the Markus&Markus Theaterkollektiv is now dealing with this calculated world in the second part of their documentary theater blockbuster trilogy, based on the Matrix universe. After Matrix (1999), Matrix Reloaded (2003), Matrix Revolutions (2003) and Matrix Resurrections (2021), here comes Matrix Reinsurance (2024).
