Invoking Ayizan and Legba

Opening blessing by Carole Demesmin

In French and Haitian Creole with English and German translation

A gathering of souls invoking the ancestral powers of Ayizan and Legba are called upon to celebrate life and facilitate interconnections through the voice of mambo Carole Demesmin. The Bwa Kayiman ceremony in 1791 is said to have taken place with the participation of all beings in a mangrove forest. Demesmin’s invitation to invoke Ayizan connects to the overall call for reparation of Haiti, suggesting the responsibility that all living entities have. Ayizan’s nurturing presence aims to guide all towards prosperity and growth, while Legba’s wisdom carves pathways through the unseen, ensuring all steps are blessed and all spirits protected. Demesmin’s blessing constitutes a homecoming, a collective exhale, a moment of spiritual renewal where all paths are cleared.
