Panel discussion
In co-operation with the German-Polish House
The event is in English language. It will be simultaneously translated into German.
17 September 1939 is deeply anchored in Poland’s collective memory. After Nazi Germany had already attacked the country on 1 September, the troops of the Red Army crossed the Polish border in the east. The country was divided as a result of the Hitler-Stalin Pact. The western part of the country experienced a brutal German occupation and the eastern part a violent Soviet occupation. The panel discussion will focus on aspects of Soviet occupation policy that have so far been neglected and will examine the effects of the German and Soviet occupation on politics, society and everyday life.
