Every year, on the third Sunday in October, Europe celebrates Restoration Day. Studios and construction sites open their doors so that you can get to know examples of current conservation and restoration projects.

Restoration is an important discipline in art, architecture, archaeology, collection and monument conservation. It ensures the transmission of history, gives cultural heritage a face - and a future. "Restoration tomorrow" is this year's motto, under which we would like to take a look into the future.

The restorers of the Musical Instrument Museum invite you to two rounds of talks on this day.

Under the motto "In front of original objects in the permanent exhibition", at 1.30 p.m. the focus will be on examination methods and documentation in restoration using the example of two harps.

At 2.30 pm, the field of preventive conservation will be presented. This new branch of conservation deals with the ageing of objects and the prevention of damage through scientific analyses. Examples will be used to discuss how objects can be better protected against decay and the challenges of climate change.
