In 1964, nineteen-year old Manz had lived in the godforsaken village of Sandesiel on the North Sea coast to complete his police traineeship. When a severe road accident with two fatalities occurred, he got sent out to investigate the case and question the inhabitants of the farms surrounding the site of the accident. Rumours were passed on to the young police officer, alluding to sexual abuse, to toxic pesticides, to other mortalities in the recent past…
