The tour takes you from Checkpoint Charlie via Potsdamer Platz and the last original watchtower of the border fortifications in Berlin to the Berlin Wall Memorial on Bernauer Strasse. Here, East Berlin windows were bricked up, tunnels dug and refugees betrayed.

We explain how the Wall was built, explain the construction of the border fortifications, tell stories of refugees and personal fates. Listen to how a train station became a ghost station, a cemetery became a death strip, house walls became border walls and a church became an obstacle in the field of fire.

We walk through the entire memorial site on Bernauer Strasse and at selected locations we also explain pictorial material, audio documents and ruins of the memorial site.
