“It has always fascinated me hearing from people the many different images and messages that any one piece of music can conjure up in their imaginations,” says John Surman. For his Pierre Boulez Saal debut, the British saxophonist brings his most recent project Words Unspoken to Berlin. Its title alludes to the instant musical understanding found by the members of his quartet, who are joined for the second part of this performance by cellist Judith Hamann. The evening’s first set will feature a world premiere work commissioned by the Pierre Boulez Saal, presented by the Words Unspoken quartet and a group of guest musicians.
