Followed by a discussion with Susanne Kammermeier.

"MANHATTAN STORIES" shows everyday life in a New York City where people on the subway don't look at their smartphones yet, but read books. In 1997, Thomas Schadt and Susanne Kammermeier accompanied seven friends through "their" city with an unagitated eye for everyday details. Above all, however, they accompany their protagonists as they confront the anonymity of the metropolis with verve. This makes the film well worth watching over time.

Thomas Schadt is one of the most important documentarists in Germany. in 2023, he donated his production archive to the Deutsche Kinemathek, and his films are available to the public in the Mediathek Fernsehen.
