Film screening and talk, English/German, 60 min

Since 2014, the transnational project Filming Future Cities has used Black, post-migrant, noncitizen and decolonial perspectives to analyze the city and its future both socially and politically. The project has its origins in Detroit, where Damani Partridge (University of Michigan) and Berlin-based filmmaker Silvana Santamaria (SOIL Films) worked with Detroit residents and students from the University of Michigan to produce 10-minute films about Detroit’s Techno history, the visual impact of Detroit street artists and perspectives on the lives of Queer and LatinX Detroiters. In 2015, in the so-called “Summer of Migration,“ in collaboration with Theater X (Youth Theater Office Berlin Moabit) and Ayla Gottschlich (TwoMoon Pictures), the project came to Berlin. Participants from all over the city made show films from noncitizen perspectives about its future. Since then, the project has taken place regularly in both cities. In 2017, the filmmakers had their first exchange between Detroit and Berlin and produced collaborative films on African perspectives on the future of the city. Some of these films are shown at FESTIWALLA. Afterwards there will be time for a Q&A with the artists and film makers.
