Dörrie is also inspired by Ozu's work, and it is no coincidence that the film Cherry Blossom Hanami begins similarly to "Tokyo Monogatari" (The Journey to Tokyo): the already ill parents from the Bavarian province travel to their children and grandchildren in Berlin, who have no time for them. In "Cherry Blossoms", Dörrie approaches Japanese culture, especially the Japanese dance Butho, which has no fixed form and was created after the Second World War. Butho means dance of darkness. The white color of the whole body is supposed to remind us of the ashes after a person's death. This closes the circle to the plot: because it is about death with dignity.
