Through his unique perspective and emotional depth, Yasuhiro Ogawa captures the beauty and mystery of travel, creating images that are both timeless and evocative. His work retells the classic motifs and contemplative attitude of Japanese landscape photography. Galerie Buchkunst Berlin is proud to present a selection of these photographs for the first time in Germany and in Berlin.

The focus of our exhibition is the photographer's current series, “Into the Silence”, in which Ogawa presents color photographs taken on trips to northern Japan over the past 10 years. With his Leica camera, he follows the path of a famous journey by haiku poet Matsuo Bashō, who, like him, develops poetic and mystical descriptions of nature that transform the environment into dreamscapes.

The series “The Dreaming” shows that the Japanese photographer was inspired by the photographs of photography legend Sebastião Salgados. He traveled through Asia, Africa and Central Asia for many years to take these photographs. In the black and white photographs, Ogawa mixes blurring, darkness and coarse grains with a lyrical attitude and harmonious elements. The slowed-down and contemplative attitude of the images tells of the freedom of being on the road, the simplicity of life. Yasuhiro Ogawa's photographs reinforce our inner longing for the original experience of nature outside our self-created, increasingly artificial structures of life.
