White Gold - Porcelain in the GDR

View into our collection

The exhibits show the range of fine ceramic use in the GDR. The so-called "white gold" was produced, among other things, for political honours of dignitaries, for ceremonial occasions such as anniversaries and for use in the gastronomic and private sectors.

In addition to porcelain products from the Meissen manufactory, which continued its craftsmanship in the GDR as the Volkseigener Betrieb (VEB) Staatliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Meissen and, as the oldest manufactory in Europe, looks back on a tradition of over 300 years, objects from the "big four" are also presented: The Volkseigene Betriebe in Kahla, Ilmenau, Weimar and Lichte.

Meissen porcelain will be on display, among other things, in the form of a fully sculpted bust of Ernst Thälmann.
