Berlinische Galerie

Berlinische Galerie

Twelve highlights from this top-class collection will be on show at the Berlinische Galerie from October 2022. In the permanent exhibition, they will set new accents and enter into a dialogue with the museum's own works. Sharing collections and making them accessible to the public must become a principle of museum work in the future. The background to this cooperation is extensive renovation work at the Märkisches Museum. Starting in 2023, the parent building of the Stiftung Stadtmuseum Berlin is expected to close for four years. In order to be able to present important treasures from the painting collection during this time as well, the idea of integrating selected works into the permanent exhibition "Art in Berlin 1880-1980" was jointly developed. A particular strength of the Stadtmuseum Berlin's collection is early modern art.

The paintings now on view at the Berlinische Galerie are by Max Beckmann, Theo von Brockhusen, Lovis Corinth, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Walter Leistikow, Max Liebermann, Edvard Munch and Lesser Ury. They significantly shaped and enriched the city's art scene at the beginning of the 20th century.
