Alongside explorations of human nature, temporality, memory, and emotion, it invites viewers to reflect upon their own place in the world and to activate their potential as creative innovators of our common future.

The exhibition, which marks the 25th anniversary of the joint Nordic embassy complex in Berlin, reflects upon Queen Margrethe II of Denmark’s words »Each autonomous and yet together«, formulated in 1999 as the guiding principle for the embassies’ unique collaboration in their united premises. This sentiment not only speaks to diplomatic co-operation but also to unity amongst individuals. By listening, trusting, and caring for one another, we foster a society where diversity, creativity, and new ideas thrive.

Individuals are defined in part through their relationships with others. Our internal experiences are unique, and communicating them effectively requires an open engagement with the receiver. Such engagement could be compared to binaural summation, the process by which two ears enable a richer sound than one; similarly, by integrating our inner thoughts with external voices, we can create a compelling collective harmony. In order for creativity to flourish, art and innovation must be valued on a societal level. By supporting the conditions wherein creative individuals can thrive, society in turn is enhanced through access to new ideas and perspectives.

Visitors are invited to share their reflections on the impact of the exhibition, as well as their thoughts and visions for the future, adding their voices to a time capsule to be opened 25 years from now. »Summation« thus offers a reflective pause – then a co-operative call to action for a brighter tomorrow.
