„Lebenswelt Schiff“ – die Ausstellung im Deutschen Technikmuseum lässt Sie die Faszination der Seefahrt spüren. Lassen Sie sich inspirieren von der engen Beziehung zwischen Mensch und Schiff, zwischen Kultur- und Schifffahrtsgeschichte sowie vom Wunsch der Menschen, ihren Horizont zu erweitern.

• 

  Die prachtvollen Schnitzereien der schwedischen VASA von 1628 zeigen, dass Schiffe auch als Repräsentationsobjekte und Ausdruck von Macht dienten. – Drei Kinder stehen auf einem Podest hinter einer Vitrine und betrachten ein großes, detailreiches Schiffsmodell. Hinter ihnen steht eine Frau.

• 52 Schiffsmodelle aus fünf Jahrhunderten erzählen auf einer Zeitachse von der Entdeckung fremder Kontinente und dem Einfluss der Seefahrt auf Kultur und Handel. – Ein mit Vitrinen gesäumter Gang, darin verschiedene Modelle von Segelschiffen.

• Wie orientiert man sich auf dem Meer? Die Ausstellung zeigt, wie die Navigation auf hoher See schon lange vor Satellitentechnik und GPS gelang. – Vor einem großen, schwarz-weißen Wandbild stehen in einer Vitrine mit blauen Sockeln verschiedene historische Globen.

"Lifeworld Ship" - the exhibition at the German Museum of Technology lets you feel the fascination of seafaring. Let yourself be inspired by the close relationship between man and ship, between cultural and maritime history, and by people's desire to broaden their horizons.

The world of ships is reflected in countless stories, myths, symbols and sayings that have grown up around ships, the sea and people. More than 1,100 exhibits on three floors and 6,500 square metres give visitors an understanding of the history of ocean and inland shipping in 30 thematic areas - one of the world's largest exhibitions on this subject.

The main area of ocean shipping starts with the chronologically structured theme area "Shipping and History". 52 ship models on a scale of 1:50 show the developments in size and shape over the past 10,000 years - from leather boats to aircraft carriers. Many other thematic areas show very different facets of ocean shipping. Five thematic areas alone deal with the history of navigation and the different ways of navigating: from the first navigation instruments to modern satellite navigation. In addition, the exhibition takes a look at sea rescue, whaling and the manufacture of sails and ropes.

We are currently working on a new presentation on the Berlin-Brandenburg enslavement trade. We have dismantled an earlier installation on the topic in cooperation with civil society groups in an artistic performance that can be seen in the exhibition.
