The Plötzensee Memorial for victims of National Socialism from Germany and abroad is a European place of silent remembrance. Between 1933 and 1945, more than 2,800 people were executed here following unjust sentences handed down by the Nazi judiciary. They included more than 1,400 Germans and more than 1,400 people from over 20 other nations. Many of them were political opponents of the National Socialist dictatorship, such as members of the Red Chapel, the Kreisau Circle, the attempted coup of July 20, 1944, or oppositional resistance groups and circles. But there were also victims who were sentenced to death and executed by the German justice system for the most minor of offences. Many foreign prisoners from the occupied countries of Europe had to die here. The room where the executions took place is now a memorial room. In the room next to it, a permanent exhibition commemorates all the victims of National Socialist unjust justice who were murdered here. A terminal provides information on the lives of all those murdered in Plötzensee. This documentation is constantly being updated.
