Oblio

With Oblio,Muna Mussie invites a selected community of urban society to take part in a ritual workshop. In a Berlin store, an embroidered wall space of memory will be created regardless of the code of language and gender as well as social and cultural roles. Time acts here as an active element and opens up the possibility for the workshop participants, as well as the subsequent visitors to the resulting performance installation, to change their own perception and create space for catharsis.  Oblio sees itself as a temporary anti-monument that is dedicated to the reappropriation of public space and de/constructs historical and private gaps in memory. It was first shown at the 2021 Democracy Biennale in Turin as part of Memory Matters and is based on the observation that there is a strong need for shared, intimate spaces of lamentation in contemporary societies.

Durchgehend geöffnet von 14.00 bis 19.00 Uhr.

Muna Mussie (she/her) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Bologna. Her work moves between gesture, vision and word, crossed by the practice of embroidery. Muna Mussie has set herself the task of investigating the languages of the arts. Behind this is the desire to give shape to the tension that arises between opposing poles – the private and the public, memory and forgetting, the visible and the invisible. Her most recent performances and installations include The Perfect Human from Sunrise to Sunshine (2023), Oblio/Pianto del Muro (2022), PERSONA (2022), FÒRO FÓRO (2022), Bientôt l'été (2021), PF DJ (2021), Oblio (2021), Curva Cieca (2021), Curva  (2019), Oasi (2018), Milite Ignoto (2015) and the exhibitons ዳናቦሎኛ| بولونیاشارع| Bologna St. 173 (2021-2023), Punteggiatura (2018). Muna Mussie's works are presented in Italy and internationally at Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Turin, MAMbo Bologna and SAVVY Contemporary Berlin among others. Muna Mussie is part of the programme apap – FEMINIST FUTURES for the period 2021-2024.
