Marlene Bart – Machined Minds: Nature Unscripted

"Machined Minds: Nature Unscripted" is a solo exhibition by Marlene Bart at SOMA Art Berlin, which is part of the series "Becoming Future" No. 3. The extensive 2-year project is dedicated to Berlin's technology-driven art sector, curated by Nabi Nara.

In her solo exhibition "Machined Minds: Nature Unscripted", Marlene Bart presents a multimedia installation that combines virtual reality and augmented reality with physical elements such as sculptures and wall works. The exhibition looks at the formation of patterns and categorization systems that influence both humans and animals, focusing in particular on the concept of the "post-natural", which serves as a tool for exploring the Anthropocene.

Bart's interest is in how "post-natural" changes begin when humans take responsibility for the habitat of another species, and how these changes simultaneously affect humans. In her VR work "Theatrum Radix", she argues for a cross-species dialog and a change of perspective in order to move away from anthropocentric views. In the AR work "Patterns of Pathology", she addresses the gaps in the history of science that affect both historical and current work with EEG data.

Animal Studies, Interspecies Storytelling, Image Studies and Posthumanism are reference areas for Bart's artistic work and research.
