International Museum Day in the Museum Nikolaikirche

We are celebrating International Museum Day on 19 May. In the heart of the Nikolai Quarter, we invite you to visit the exhibition free of charge.

Berlin's oldest preserved church building has marked the Nikolai Quarter and the centre of Berlin since the Middle Ages: once a place of religion, now a museum of church, building and city history. The model of the medieval twin city of Berlin and Cölln is particularly interesting for families. Here, children and adults can find out together which buildings from back then still exist and what they look like today.

On International Museum Day, you can also enjoy a free guided tour of the permanent exhibition. An audio guide for families leads you through the museum with exciting stories in German. Especially for children, there is a museum rally illustrated by Berlin cartoonist Mawil in German, English, Turkish, Polish and Arabic.

International Museum Day will take place for the 47th time in 2024. Proclaimed annually by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) on 18 May, it will be celebrated in Germany this year on the third Sunday of the month. The aim of the day of action is to draw attention to museums and invite people to discover their diversity.
