The exhibition is dedicated to a hitherto little researched topic and takes a look at the living and working conditions of the women and men employed in the commandos. With their work, they had to help maintain the supply, operation and upkeep of the central detention center of the Ministry for State Security (MfS) - in the kitchen, as cleaners, sewing, washing and ironing, in the carpenter's workshop and in the car repair shop. The new permanent exhibition is shown in a preserved, approximately 500 square meter kitchen and living wing of the prison. Prisoners of the women's commando "New Kitchen" worked and lived here until 1989. Historical furniture and equipment as well as kitchen utensils are presented in their original locations and allow visitors to immerse themselves in the everyday life of the prisoners and their work. In order to be able to leave the kitchen wing with the various work and living rooms in its original state, the memorial is breaking new ground in digital mediation: the central exhibition content such as photos, video and audio documents, reports by contemporary witnesses or even excerpts from informers' reports to the Stasi are made accessible via an augmented reality app. Volumetric recordings of contemporary witnesses in 3D also enable a virtual encounter with former prisoners.
