Historic brewery

  Mittelpunkt der Brauerei ist das Sudhaus mit Braupfanne und Läuterbottich. – Im Zentrum der historischen Brauerei steht ein großer Bottich aus Kupfer, aus dem ein großes Rohr nach oben ragt.

• Am Spindeltisch wird mit Würzspindeln der Malzzuckergehalt bestimmt und so der Gärprozess kontrolliert. – Waschbeckenartiger Aufbau aus Kupfer an einer weiß gekachelten Wand.

How is beer brewed? You can find out everything about the centuries-old craft of brewing with the malting, boiling, cooling, fermenting and storing processes in the former warehouse of the Nuremberg Tucher Bräu AG on the museum grounds.

Germany is not only the land of poets and thinkers, but also of beer brewers and beer drinkers. For over 500 years, German beer has been brewed according to the Purity Law. With the four ingredients of malt, water, hops and yeast laid down there, the Germans have created a variety of beer like hardly anywhere else in the world: there are currently over 5,000 different beers in this country. The stronghold of the art of brewing can be found in Franconia. But Berlin used to be one of the biggest brewery cities as well. Dozens of breweries once produced in the capital. In the course of the second half of the 19th century, the German brewing and malting industry changed from a craft to an independent industry. The Historical Brewery explains this development and the underlying scientific findings and innovations.
