Grandpa in the Second World War

Puppet theater by and with Ilka Vierkant

Werner Vierkant was a Reichsbahn director in Krakow during the Second World War. In France, his granddaughter meets a married couple from Toulouse - Jean and Marie Vaislic, who survived Auschwitz and Ravensbrück. Jean, then Janek Vaislic, had to lay tracks in Auschwitz-Birkenau as a concentration camp inmate, which Werner Vierkant may have planned. The encounter with Jean and Marie becomes the impetus for the granddaughter to develop an evening of puppet theater against forgetting.

Ilka Vierkant is an actress who toured Europe for many years with FAMILIE FLÖZ. For her, the granddaughter of a Nazi perpetrator, the encounter with the survivors of the Holocaust raises many questions and painful feelings, which she addresses in her play.

Following the performance, there will be an opportunity for a discussion with Ilka Vierkant and Dr. Stephanie Bohra (Topography of Terror Foundation).Translated with DeepL
