35 separate topics create a broad impression of the DDR: from music, culture, consumption via family, education, equality of women and men to the Berlin Wall, socialist ideology and opposition in the DDR. Every section presents original artefacts and interactive tools to touch and discover!
A typic DDR apartment offers you the chance to look behind the scenes of an avarage family household. Open drawers and closets to learn more!
Our modern exhibition techniques ensure a true hands-on experience of history: 2D-animations, a driving simulator, an interactive desk, (multi) touchscreens, motion sensors, magnetic sensors and bone conduction speakers acompany dioramas and showcases.
Not merely content to present in a world-beating exhibition, we at the DDR Museum place great importance on the high-quality educational services which we provide. Including guided tours through the exhibition, workshops, city tours and audiences with eyewitnesses, we take our responsibilities as a public educator seriously and ensure that they are diffused with a high level of sound scholarship. We provide tours and other services in 15 languages.
With a capacity for 100 people, our visitor centre is used for a wide range of activities including lectures, workshops, seminars, lessons, discussions and film screenings.
Small temporary exhibitions in the museum as well as book presentations, discussions and talks in the visitor centre deepen the insight into the history of a bygone state accompanying the permanent exhibition.
