The Berlin-based Trickster Orchestra endeavours not only to juxtapose different musical styles and biographies, but also to allow them to enter into a mutual dialogue on equal footing, thereby locating a musical language of radical diversity. How is it possible to unite often contradictory traditions and locate a common musical language that is neither one’s own nor someone else’s?
The trans-traditional music laboratory of the Trickster Orchestra is a public, experimental and interactive project. Audiences are invited to participate in an informal setting, ask questions, make comments – or just listen. At the centre of five thematic “Encounters”, which culminate in a major festival in spring 2026, are questions around a contemporary, transtraditional music practice. Together with different guest artists, the Trickster Orchestra embarks on an artistic journey of discovery with an uncertain outcome, as they present current (musical) snapshots, miniatures and sketches in workshop concerts. Guest artists in “Encounter I” on 15 December include Dahlia Borsche, Mitra Behpoori and Ketan Bhatti.
