We're queer, we've always been here. Get used to it.
In the TRACING project, a group of ten to fifteen lesbian, inter*, bisexual, gay, trans* and/or queer people over the age of 65 come together to share their experiences of queer movement in public spaces over the decades through voice, video and dance.
Led by the feelings.mem collective and with the support of the LSBTI* Alter und Pflege, the participants meet in various movement and discussion formats. They will focus on movement in and through the city of Berlin, former places of residence, LGBTIQ* presence/absence over decades and the inscription of queer communication codes in their own bodies. The aim is to take account of different body realities and needs.
Inspired by stories of experience, interviews and conversations, the participants will develop choreographies that question their own movement histories more closely and use their material realities as older bodies as an inspiring force. The dances will be filmed in rehearsal rooms and at various significant locations in the city by a video artist and then edited into short films. These will be placed in the vicinity of Uferstudios, care facilities, meeting places and places of residence of the participants, e.g. by means of QR code posters, and will transform these places into windows of queer urban history(ies) as video interventions in public space. TRACING aims to create more visibility for queer people of an older age and emphasize their presence in the cityscape.
In addition, the project results will be exhibited and celebrated in the meeting places and care facilities of the participants. TRACING is also part of the LIFETIMES - Cultural Community Center at Uferstudios.
