Time travel for Harvest Thanksgiving

Dreschen auf der Tenne

Dreschen auf der Tenne

On Museum Sunday, families can meet real-life representatives of the rural population of the time in Berlin's medieval centre! Two visitors from the surrounding area come to the big city. The occasion is Thanksgiving time: farmer's wife Zlata and farmer Bogdan want to lay their offerings at the altar in St Nicholas' Church and ask the priest for a blessing for their family, farm and village. But they have to wait for him as he is hearing the confession of a rich merchant's family. So Zlata and Bogdan pass the waiting time in front of the church, where they marvel at the crowds of people and enjoy telling the townspeople about their busy lives in the village. Of course, there is no shortage of gossip and exciting stories from the countryside... The Machandel storytelling theatre (Silvia Ladewig and Oliver Kube) takes young and old visitors to the Nikolai Quarter into the rural world around the year 1230 with drama and fairy tales. Short play scenes and conversations give a lively impression of the everyday life of farming families at that time.
