Special guided tour of the Court Gardeners' Museum with palace employee Barbara Feldt, SPSG

Karl Begas: Peter Joseph Lenné

Karl Begas: Peter Joseph Lenné

When the young and ambitious Peter Joseph Lenné came to Potsdam in 1816, he was commissioned by Karl August Prince von Hardenberg to create the first English-inspired pleasure grounds in Prussia on his Glienicke estate. From 1824, he continued his work there under Prince Carl of Prussia and, in his first close collaboration with Karl Friedrich Schinkel, created the grandiose work of art that Glienicke Palace and Park are today. Although Peter Joseph Lenné casually skipped the position of court gardener during his unparalleled career, he did a great deal to enhance the status of this busy profession. The first court gardener museum in Europe, established in 2006 at Glienicke Palace, sheds light on and pays tribute to the training and work of court gardeners.
