At midnight on October 3, 1990, the former Chancellor stood in the VIP gallery in front of the Reichstag building in Berlin alongside Federal President Richard von Weizsäcker, Federal Chancellor Helmut Kohl and Foreign Minister Hans-Dietrich Genscher.
