Lecture and guided tour for Open Monument Day 2024

In an interview project, the neighboring KAHO (Stiftung Stadtkultur) collected voices of people who lived in the Soviet restricted area of Karlshorst in the 60s, 70s and 90s in various functions. Some spent part of their childhood there and attended Soviet school, others did their military service or held leading positions in secret service or military institutions. In an introductory lecture followed by a tour, museum staff will present the individual memories.

True signs. Contemporary witnesses of history

Sunday, September 8, 2024, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. at the Museum Berlin-Karlshorst

The Museum Berlin-Karlshorst is the site of the end of the war in Europe in 1945. The post-war period and the decades that followed also shaped the history of the site. A variety of historical signs and traces in the museum itself and in its surroundings can tell of the Soviet presence in Karlshorst until the 1990s - are thus “true signs” and “contemporary witnesses”. The program on September 8, 2024 sheds light on the Soviet history of the neighborhood in a special way and invites visitors to discover various of these true signs.
