Inger-Mari Aikio, known as Ima, is one of the most important contemporary Sámi poets. Her poems have been translated into English, German, Finnish, Swedish and Hungarian, among other languages. They address a new relationship to Sámi culture and reflect the roles of women in Sápmi. Her poems will be read in Northern Sámi with German translation, the evening will be hosted by their editor Johanna Domokos.
Inger-Mari Aikio (born 1961 in Ohcejohka/Utsjoki) is one of the most productive contemporary Sámi poets. She has published numerous volumes of Sámi poetry and children's books and also works as a radio journalist, film director and editor. In her work, she questions the notion of a “true Sámi identity” and deals with personal, individual themes, as well as female sexuality and romantic relationships.
Johanna Domokos is a literary scholar (Associate Professor at Karoli University, Budapest), translator and editor. As head of the translation and book production laboratory at Bielefeld University, she has published more than a dozen books on Sámi and Scandinavian literature in German and English in collaboration with her students.
