Walter Leistikow (1865-1908) is one of the most important representatives of German Impressionism. In addition to his well-known landscapes of lakes and pine trees in the Mark Brandenburg, he also created paintings depicting his travels - from the Baltic coast to Italy. His diverse oeuvre also includes watercolours, etchings and designs for wallpaper and fabrics. As a co-founder of the Berlin Secession and the Deutscher Künstlerbund, Leistikow was involved in cultural politics and made a significant contribution to Berlin becoming a vibrant centre of the international art scene.
In conversation with publisher Dirk Palm, art historian Nicole Bröhan provides insights into the artist's life and provides background information on his impressive works. Leistikow's versatility, which goes beyond his famous depictions of nature and is particularly evident in his prints and designs for arts and crafts, will play a special role.
