Punctum - a guided tour in German sign language

Public guided tour of the permanent exhibition

Imagine an arrow. It flies towards you. This is how an object comes to you. You don't understand why it comes to you. But it touches you. It hurts you. And you set out to find out why it touches and hurts you .

Michel came to Germany from Syria as a teenager. He is deaf. When he visited the Jewish Museum with his class for the first time in 2020, he felt emotionally overwhelmed. Today, he guides visitors through the permanent exhibition himself, drawing on his own experiences of flight, exclusion and new beginnings and focusing on individual points of contact with German-Jewish history. Which moment, which object or photo will be remembered and why? Inspired by Roland Barthes' concept of the "punctum", Michel shows his personal highlights of the permanent exhibition and encourages participants to create their own references to history.

The tour is conducted in German sign language and is aimed at young people and adults.Translated with DeepL
