Public Tour of our Permanent Exhibition

Tohuwabohu under the dome

Come and join us on our exhibit tour “Tohuwabohu under the Dome: the New Synagogue from 1866 to today.” The head of our department for education & outreach will take you on an informative and fascinating tour through our museum’s permanent exhibition as well as through the prayer room of the current synagogue congregation. Discover the many layers of history of the New Synagogue, spanning the visit of Otto von Bismarck at its opening ceremony in 1866, its destruction during World War II, all the way to its reconstruction around the time of German Reunification. On this journey into the past, you will encounter brave police officers, prophets, pioneering female rabbis and will trace the stories that are literally inscribed into walls and objects of the New Synagogue.
