Open Monument Day

On the trail of a secret police force

Innenhof der Stasi-Zentrale

Innenhof der Stasi-Zentrale

For almost four decades, the Ministry for State Security of the GDR organized the surveillance and persecution of people from its headquarters in Lichtenberg. With its site-defining buildings and open spaces, the historic site documents the gradual development of the Stasi into one of the largest state surveillance and repression apparatuses in the world. Further areas of the former headquarters have been listed since 2022. On Open Monument Day, those involved in the "Stasi Headquarters. Campus for Democracy" invite you to search for traces.

The program takes place as part of the "Open Monument Day" in Berlin.
