The Museum Berlin-Karlshorst is the site of the end of the war in Europe in 1945. The post-war period and the decades that followed also shaped the history of the site. A variety of historical signs

and traces in the museum itself and in its surroundings can tell of the Soviet presence in Karlshorst until the 1990s - are thus “true signs” and “contemporary witnesses”. The program on September 8, 2024 sheds light on the Soviet history of the neighborhood in a special way and invites visitors to discover various of these true signs.

PROGRAM

11 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Lecture and tour: Soviet voices from Karlshorst

In an interview project, the neighboring KAHO (Stiftung Stadtkultur) collected voices of people who lived in the Soviet restricted area of Karlshorst in various functions in the 1960s, 1970s and 1990s. Some spent part of their childhood there and attended Soviet school, others did their military service or held leading positions in secret service or military institutions. In an introductory lecture followed by a tour, museum staff will present the individual memories.

The tour ends at the KAHO (Treskowallee/Theatergasse).

1.30 p.m. / 2.30 p.m. / 3.30 p.m.
Attic tours of inscriptions by Soviet soldiers

In the attic of the museum, which is otherwise not open to the public, Soviet military personnel have left inscriptions in various places. These bear witness to the almost fifty years of Soviet use of the building. After a short introductory talk about the everyday life of the Soviet armed forces in Karlshorst, the inscriptions are explained in small groups, equipped with flashlights.

Participation in the attic tour is only possible after prior registration. Registration at:

3-5 p.m.
Opening of the outdoor tour “Sperrgebiet 1945-1994” with guided tour

The Museum Berlin-Karlshorst is located in the middle of a former Soviet restricted area. The Soviet military administration, secret services and Soviet troops resided here. The Stasi and border control for the Berlin Wall were added later. The often forgotten locations of the facilities have been given information steles under the direction of the museum. This outdoor tour opens on Open Monument Day. There will be lectures and a panel discussion with guests from the neighborhood.

All-day sale of cakes and drinks by pupils of the Hans-und-Hilde-Coppi-Gymnasium - on the terrace in the museum garden.

The Coppi-Gymnasium is a cooperation school of the Museum Berlin-Karlshorst. The proceeds from the cake sale go to the class fund of the 11th grade.

Booking: Participation in the attic tour is only possible after prior registration. Registration at:
