"O pity, she is gone..." - On the anniversary of the death of the unforgettable Queen Luise

Guided tours offered by VHS City-West

Christian Daniel Rauch: Sarkophag Luise

Christian Daniel Rauch: Sarkophag Luise

The tour in the footsteps of Luise leads to two places in the palace gardens that commemorate the young deceased queen in different ways: the mausoleum with the important funerary monument and the Luiseninsel with the bust of the queen and other sculptures.

The mausoleum was built by the grieving king after the queen's sudden death on July 19, 1810. Initially, only the tomb monument of the queen, created by Christian Daniel Rauch from Carrara marble, stood inside, a masterpiece of 19th century German sculpture. The king seemed to have a different intention for the Luiseninsel: Here, amidst nature and the eternal change of seasons, his beloved wife was to be remembered.

The tour lasts approx. 1.5 hours. Please register directly with the City-West Adult Education Center.Translated with DeepL
