Experimental Photography on Glass

Kunsthandwerk Workshops

Join Silvia Levenson in a 3-day Workshop to explore experimental photography on glass. The workshop will focus on techniques for printing photos, drawings, and texts from negatives onto glass surfaces.
Participants will learn the historic gum bichromate printing technique, originally used on ceramics since 1885, and now adapted for kiln-formed glass. This unique blend of traditional and contemporary artistic practices takes advantage of the properties of glass, such as transparency and reflectivity, in combination with photographic techniques.
The workshop will cover an introduction to techniques and materials, preparing and applying the emulsion, preparing the negatives, experimenting with multiple layers to create depth in the final prints, and adding color using powder printing.
